'Ensuring Every Child THRIVES'

Design and Technology

At Broughton, we encourage children to use their creativity and imagination, to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. We aim to, wherever possible, link work to other disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art. Children are taught a range of skills that will aid them beyond their time at Broughton Community School. The children are also given opportunities to reflect upon and evaluate past and present design technology, its uses and its effectiveness and are encouraged to become innovators and risk-takers.

Our curriculum

How can you support your children at home?

Each year group has a termly topic with suggested activities for homework. This is a great opportunity to practise some DT by designing and or making something linked to your topic. This could be a new invention for keeping the seas cleaner, a tasty homemade treat that the Mayans might have eaten or creating a new mechanical system to help astronauts!

Please see below some useful links for some more ideas and activities to try at home.
