Music Clubs and Tuition at Broughton Community Schools

At Broughton Community Schools we believe strongly in supporting our children so they can develop their love of music in school and beyond.

Clubs

Choir
We offer a choir club which runs every Tuesday throughout the year for our children who love to sing and perform. This club is run by Mrs Barlow our Music Lead and is suitable for our children in Year 1- Year 6. This club is free for all children to attend and the children will be provided with lots of chances to perform throughout the year. There is a sign-up email sent every term via parentmail. However, if you would like to enquire about additional spaces please contact Mrs Barlow at Otter@broughtoninfant.bucks.sch.uk

Violin Club
From October 2024, we will be offering a 20 minute Violin Club for children in Years 1 - 6, every Tuesday lunch time. The cost will be approximately £5 per session, payable in advance each half-term. The children will need to bring their own violin for this. There will be a sign-up email for this club sent out via parentmail. However, this club is only suitable for those who are already learning the violin. If you would like to enquire about your child joining this club please contact Frank Zielhorst at FZielhorst@broughton.bucks.sch.uk

Music Tuition

Piano and Violin Lessons
Frank Zielhorst is our school music specialist and offers 20 minutes and 30 minutes 1:1 piano and violin lessons to our KS1 and KS2 children during the school day. Pupils will need to come out of lessons for this, however times will be ‘rotated’ so that children do not miss the same lesson every week.

Lessons cost for £14 for 20 minutes and £21 for 30 minutes a week, charged via direct debit on a half-termly basis. Pupils will need a violin, piano or keyboard at home to practise on and must be willing to practise regularly. Frank is very happy to give advice on buying a suitable instrument (e.g. size and quality). You can also rent instruments from the Buckinghamshire Music Trust (see link below) as a cheaper alternative.

If you would like to enquire about piano lessons or violin lessons with Frank, please email Frank at FZielhorst@broughton.bucks.sch.uk with your name, child’s name and class, and your email address.

If you would like to submit a request for piano and violin lessons, please complete this online form https://forms.gle/dJ2GPf1JxiiCb4PV9.

Please note that there are limited spaces for both piano and violin; in the event that demand is very high it may be that your child will be put on a waiting list.

Rocksteady
Rocksteady come into school and teach the children how to play in a band. The children can choose from the electric guitar, keyboard, drums or vocals and enjoy playing in a happy, supportive environment with their friends.

The Rocksteady Programme is for all children aged 4-11 and is proven to progress musicianship, confidence and teamwork skills with no prior experience necessary. The Rocksteady Band Leaders are carefully chosen, extensively trained musicians who know how to inspire a life-long love of playing music.

The children will perform in termly concerts at school assemblies, to show off their
progress to friends, teachers and parents with the rest of their band.
